Dún Chaoin

Set within the spectacular coastal landscape of Dún Chaoin, in the heart of the Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht, this project involves the sensitive refurbishment and extension of an existing dwelling.

Inspired by the traditional farmsteads and vernacular architecture of West Kerry, the design introduces a cluster of simple, narrow building forms, carefully staggered to follow the natural contours of the site. This approach breaks down the overall scale of the development, minimizing its visual impact on the surrounding landscape while creating sheltered outdoor spaces.

A restrained palette of natural stone, render, slate and corrugated metal references the materials and character of traditional rural buildings. The result is a contemporary interpretation of local architecture, designed to sit quietly within one of Ireland's most scenic and culturally significant landscapes.
